Fiorentina cruised past Sampdoria in their Serie A clash thanks to second-half goals from Alessandro Diamanti and Mohamad Salah.
Neither side were able to break the deadlock in the first half, despite Fiorentina coming close to scoring the opener as Gonzalo Rodriguez's effort struck the post on the 20-minute mark.
The game came into life midway through the second half and the opening goal was scored by Diamanti, who cut in on his right foot and curled his shot inside the far post, evading a crowd of bodies on its way through.
Minutes later, Chelsea loanee Salah doubled the home side's lead, bursting through the Sampdoria defence while fending off tackles to put a shot past visiting keeper Emiliano Viviano.
Alberto Aquilani had a good chance to give Fiorentina their third and put the game out of reach, but a point-blank save from Viviano kept the scores at 2-0.
The waterlogged pitch caused several injuries throughout the game, with many players becoming casualties due to the pitch conditions.
The result sees Fiorentina move above Sampdoria in the Serie A table as both sides compet for a European place.
