The European draw for the World Cup qualifying playoffs will be made on October 21, with France waiting to find out whether or not they will be among the top seeds.
Les Bleus, the 1998 winners, finished second to Spain in Group I and now have to win a two-legged tie against one of the other runners-up to secure their place at Brazil 2014.
Their current ranking of 25th places them fifth-highest of the eight nations that will be competing in the playoffs, meaning that Portugal, Sweden, Croatia and Greece would be seeded, as it stands.
The updated standings will be released on Thursday, October 17, with Didier Deschamps's side needing to leapfrog 22nd-place Sweden to ensure that they avoid a potential shootout with Portugal.
Iceland, Ukraine and Romania complete the lineup for the playoffs, which will take place on Friday 15 and Tuesday, November 19.
