Freiburg survived a late scare to reach the quarter-finals of the DFB-Pokal after defeating FC Koln 2-1 at the Schwarzwald-Stadion this evening.
The home side scored twice in the first 20 minutes thanks to an Anthony Ujah own goal and Vladimir Darida strike, before a late Deyverson goal.
Koln striker Ujah headed into his own net after 18 minutes, before Darida doubled Freiburg's lead just moments later after rounding keeper Timo Horn.
Ujah had chances for Koln as they looked to reduce the deficit before half time, but failed to convert any of his chances.
In the second half, Timo Horn saved Darida's penalty to deny the midfielder his second of the game and give the home side an unassailable three-goal lead.
With just minutes left, Koln were back in it thanks to Deyverson's finish but it was merely a consolation for the visitors as Freiburg saw out the rest of the game, ensuring their passage to the quarter-finals, as they bid to win the competition for the first time.
