Oxford United have beaten Gateshead 1-0 after extra time in their FA Cup first-round replay at the International Stadium.
The home side had the first chance of the game, as Josh Walker glanced a header wide from Craig Baxter's corner.
Gateshead came even closer when James Curtis headed Colin Larkin's cross straight at the keeper.
Walker had the home side's final chance of the first half, but his well-struck volley drifted wide of the goal.
Four minutes after the break Oxford came close to breaking the deadlock, as Ryan Williams saw his header cleared off the line.
Collin Larkin tested Ryan Clarke with a stinging shot from just inside the box, that the keeper had to beat away.
The game finished goalless at the end of 90 minutes and went to extra time, with James Marwood coming the closest to scoring for the home side when his volley crashed off the post.
With just four minutes left to play, Oxford scored the only goal of the game. Williams was brought down by Curtis inside the box and Deane Smalley slotted home from the penalty spot to put the League Two side into the second round.
