Gian Piero Gasperini's first game back with Genoa has ended in a 1-1 draw at Catania, thanks to a late own goal from Nicola Legrottaglie.
Genoa travelled to the Stadio Angelo Massimino with a new-look 3-4-3 formation under Gasperini, who took over from Fabio Liverani last week.
Both sides went into the clash in poor form but were positive early on, with Juraj Kucka and Lucas Castro both registering attempts on target.
Alberto Gilardino had a goal ruled out for offside just before the break, while soon after the interval Castro headed Jaroslav Plasil's free kick off the woodwork.
Just before the hour mark Catania broke the deadlock to take the lead through Gonzalo Bergessio, who tapped in after Luca Antonini failed to clear his lines.
Genoa probed for an equaliser but did not look like restoring parity, until a moment of fortune changed the match late on.
Legrottaglie was the man who inadvertently spared Genoa's blushes, heading Adrian Stoian's cross into his own net three minutes from time.
