Inter Milan are now winless in four matches as their difficult season draws to a close, despite an improved display at Genoa this afternoon.
Genoa needed a positive result to ensure survival and went into today's clash unbeaten in five Serie A matches.
The home side started brightly as Antonio Floro Flores tested Samir Handanovic with a fierce strike from range.
Handanovic was quickly called into action once more as he tipped Marco Borriello's header wide from close range.
Andrea Bertolacci's rasping effort from 25 yards also needed a strong stop as Handanovic was kept busy throughout the first period.
Inter grew in confidence and came close to breaking the deadlock late on as Tommaso Rocchi's strike came crashing back off the crossbar.
Both sides ultimately settled for a point in the closing stages that secures safety for Genoa but sees Inter stay ninth in Serie A.
