Mario Gotze has claimed that Germany paid the price for not taking their chances in Wednesday's 2-1 loss to the USA in Cologne.
The World Cup winners led thanks to an early goal from the Bayern Munich attacker, but Mix Diskerud hit back in the closing stages of the first half before Bobby Wood secured the win for the visitors with a late strike.
Gotze refused to make excuses for the defeat after Joachim Low's side missed a number of good chances before Diskerud's equaliser.
"We had many good chances during the first half and we played pretty well," he told reporters. "Unfortunately we did not convert our chances, otherwise it would have been a different game.
"We lost our way a bit after the break. You have to score, that is the most important thing in football and if you do so, you do not get in to trouble in the end like we did."
