Guiseley moved up to 14th in te National League thanks to a 3-1 home win over Barrow at Nethermoor Park.

Despite a late pitch inspection causing a delay in kickoff, the home side were keen to get started and took the lead after just five minutes when Danny Boshell was able to fire in a rebound after Anthony Dudley saw his shot saved.

Played at a high tempo, the first half offered plenty of chances as Gavin Rothery blasted the ball over for Guiseley following some solid from Danny Lowe and Adam Boyes.

After Dave Symington hit an opportunity to equalise over for Barrow, Dudley failed to double Guiseley's lead despite opposition keeper Joel Dixon offering an open goal after clearing a Boyes chance.

The Lions went 2-0 up with just under 10 minutes remaining until half time when Robert Atkinson stabbed home following a dangerous Rothery free kick.

It looked set to remain that way, but Barrow were given a penalty when Atkinson was deemed to have handled the ball in his own area, with Andy Cook converting calmly to finish the half at 2-1.

Into the second half and the positives were halted for Barrow when David Mellor was sent off three minutes in for a second bookable offence.

Guiseley took full advantage, making it 3-1 when Dudley finished expertly after being played through by Rothery.

Things went from bad to worse and Barrow were down to nine men with 12 minutes remaining as Nick Anderton received a straight red for a nasty challenge on Ryan Toulson.

Rothery had a goal disallowed for Guiseley in the closing stages of the game, but the win had already been sealed.
