Sports Mole previews Tuesday's National League clash between Halifax Town and Notts County, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

Halifax Town shall be attempting to extend their five-game unbeaten run on Tuesday when they welcome Notts County to the Shay Stadium in their latest National League fixture.

The visitors have lost their previous two matches, but they have the opportunity to overtake their opponents in the table with a victory.

Match preview

Halifax Town have made a bright start to the 2021-22 campaign, with five victories from their opening nine games in the league helping them to a playoff position.

Despite the fact they lost in the opening match of the season, Pete Wild's team bounced back well and they have put together some impressive performances.

After the defeat by Yeovil Town at the start of September, Halifax have gone on a five-game unbeaten run, which has included three clean sheets as well.

Defensively, the Shaymen have been strong, with only one team in the league having conceded fewer goals than them, which is something that has made Wild's men difficult to defeat.

They were unable to secure three points on Saturday after a goalless draw with Barnet, but last weekend did see them defeat Aldershot Town, with a goal from Billy Waters being enough to separate the two teams.

Last season, the club finished just four points outside of the playoffs and that is something they will be aiming to improve upon during this campaign.

That was not the case for Notts County, though, as they did earn a spot in the top seven but were unable to earn a promotion after being defeated in the semi-final by Torquay United.

Once again they find themselves in the playoffs spots, but with goal difference being the only thing keeping them there, the club needs to pick up some victories in order to make that more secure.

Tuesday would be the perfect time to do that considering the fact Halifax are above them in the league, and with that gap being just two points, a win could help Notts County climb the table.

However, Ian Burchnall will need to see a lot more from his team in midweek after they suffered consecutive defeats against Altrincham and Woking.

Their most recent outing led to a heavy 4-1 loss, despite the fact they took the lead through Ruben Rodrigues, as three goals in the space of eight minutes late in the second half put the game beyond the Magpies.

Team News

Halifax Town brought Jamie Allen into the starting lineup at the weekend as Wild was forced to replace Matthew Warburton due to injury, which is something that is expected to happen once again on Tuesday.

After a solid defensive display, there might not be any need for changes against Notts County, but there could be a chance for Elliot Newby to make his first start for the club.

The midfielder joined on loan recently from Stockport County and he made his debut against Aldershot from the bench, but he could have played his way into Wild's mind for this game.

Notts County were able to welcome back Alex Lacey on Saturday, which provided a boost to their squad depth when it comes to defensive options.

However, neither Connell Rawlinson nor Kyle Cameron were able to feature, although both have been training recently which means they could be available for Tuesday.

Halifax Town possible starting lineup:
Johnson; Warren, Senior, Bradbury, Maher; Green, Spence, Gilmour; Slew, Waters, Allen

Notts County possible starting lineup:
Patterson; Chicksen, Lacey, Palmer, Brindley; Brennan, O'Brien, Rodrigues, Mitchell; Wootton, Nemane

We say: Halifax Town 1-0 Notts County

Both teams will want to be in the conversation when it comes to promotion at the end of the season, which does make this an important fixture for each club.

However, with Halifax Town having more momentum and a much stronger defensive setup, they should be able to hold off the visitors in order to gain three points at home.
