Championship club Huddersfield Town have conceded that midfielder Adam Clayton is on the brink of leaving the club.
The 25-year-old midfielder was today left out of the Terriers' matchday squad for the opening game of the 2014-15 season against Bournemouth.
"Over the last three days, Huddersfield Town has been in advanced talks with another club about a possible permanent transfer of Adam Clayton," read a Huddersfield statement.
"In that period Adam has been discussing personal terms with this club, meaning he has not participated in Town's pre-match preparation. As a result, he has been left out of today's matchday squad.
"A deal remains possible, but has not yet been concluded."
Fellow Championship sides Brighton & Hove Albion and Middlesbrough are believed to have been the two leading the race for his signature and, according to reports, it is Brighton who have won.
