Sports Mole takes an in depth look at Hull City's goalless draw with Bristol City in the Championship this evening.

Hull City have moved to within three points of promotion from the Championship after recording a goalless draw with Bristol City this evening.

Both sides had strong periods during the match, but neither could find the back of the net within the 90 minutes.

The Tigers can still secure promotion this weekend if Watford lose to Blackburn Rovers tomorrow.

Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at the stalemate at the KC Stadium.

Was the result fair?

Over the course of 90 minutes, a draw seems a fair result. Hull will be disappointed not to have scored in stoppage time, when David Meyler smashed the ball towards goal, only to see Tom Heaton make a superb save. The visitors had strong spells in both halves, and will feel equally aggrieved not to have broken the deadlock. On the whole, a well-balanced match.

Hull City's performance

The home side made a bright start to the game, but struggled to contain Bristol for much of the first half. The Tigers will have spurned several chances by drifting offside, having been flagged six times for offside. At times, Hull did show the quality of a side on the verge of Premier League promotion, peppering the Robins' goal in the final five minutes, but they were not good enough for the win tonight.

Bristol City's performance

Sean O'Driscoll's men put the disappointment of relegation behind them and played with pride this evening. The 22-place gap between the two sides rarely showed. Bristol City's defence was extremely well organised, restricting the number of chances that their opponents could create. The visitors had chances to win the game, with Albert Adomah stretching the Hull back four on several occasions, but they could not find the back of the net.

Sports Mole's man of the match

Albert Adomah: The Ghanian winger caused endless problems for Hull City's defenders, and had a host of chances to secure a winner for the visitors. Despite looking so dangerous up front, the 25-year-old made a number of crucial blocks at the back too, rounding off an impressive performance by Adomah.

Biggest gaffe

There was very little in the way of gaffes this evening, but the worst was probably by James Chester. Early in the first half, the Hull City defender looked to pass to David Meyler, but he completely mis-hit the shot, not helped by the heavily worn pitch, giving away a throw-in.

Referee's performance

It was an easy evening for Michael Oliver. With few fouls from either side, none of which forced the referee to reach for his pocket. The only big decisions for Oliver were two penalty appeals by the home side, but they were both correctly waved away.

What next?

Hull: Steve Bruce's side travel to Oakwell next Saturday to face relegation-threatened Barnsley.

Bristol City: The already-relegated Robins host fellow strugglers Huddersfield Town next Saturday.
