Jack Rodwell scored a late equaliser as Sunderland salvaged a 1-1 draw against Hull City in their Premier League clash this evening.

Dame N'Doye flicked in Tom Huddlestone's free kick to give the Tigers the lead, before Sunderland manager Gus Poyet was sent to the stands for angrily reacting to a referring decision.

The Tigers wasted further chances to double their lead and they were made to pay as Patrick van Aanholt's cross was converted by Rodwell to earn the visitors a point.

Here, Sports Mole takes a closer look at the events that unfolded at the KC Stadium.

HULL CITY:

Goal

Allan McGregor: Was rarely troubled, but he will feel that he could have done better to prevent Van Aanholt's cross from reaching Rodwell at the back post for the equaliser. (6/10)

Defence

Alex Bruce: Had a solid game at the heart of the defence and battled well to prevent Defoe and Graham from having any meaningful chances. (7/10)

Paul McShane: Helped to keep the Sunderland attack quiet and never shied away from making a challenge. (7/10)

Michael Dawson: Another solid and reliable performance from the centre-back who took control and was at his commanding best. (7/10)

Midfield

Ahmed Elmohamady: Was involved in many of his side's best moves this evening. He constantly got down the right and played in some fantastic crosses that should have been converted by his teammates. (7/10)

David Meyler: Used the ball well and did a good job of stopping Sunderland's attacks when they looked to break. (6/10)

Jake Livermore: Had a decent game in the centre of the pitch and made some timely interceptions, but wasted a big chance to score a second for Hull shortly before they conceded. (6/10)

Tom Huddlestone: Was solid throughout and helped to keep the Sunderland midfield quiet. Set up the opening goal with a great low free kick that was turned in by N'Doye. (7/10)

Andrew Robertson: Brought back into the starting lineup and produced a good display on the left. He was solid in defence when called upon and delivered some really dangerous crosses. (7/10)

Attack

Dame N'Doye: The striker enjoyed a great game and scored a fine goal to give Hull the lead. He almost added a second with a header that was well saved by Pantilimon and was a constant threat for the visiting defence. (8/10)

Nikica Jelavic: Had a decent game up front and although he failed to find the net, he worked hard and his runs in behind created plenty of opportunities for his teammates. (7/10)

Substitutes

Abel Hernandez: Was unable to make too much of an impact after replacing Jelavic late on. (6/10)

SUNDERLAND:

Goal

Costel Pantilimon: Could not have done much about the goal, but made a fantastic save from N'Doye's close-range header and was also well placed to keep out a Livermore strike. (6/10)

Defence

Anthony Reveillere: Unable to get involved too much in his team's attacks, as he was busy dealing with Elmohamady's threat. The Egyptian got past him several times on the wing and caused him plenty of problems. (6/10)

Wes Brown: Was able to play after having his red card rescinded and he was a reliable presence at the back for the visitors. Won a number of aerial duels and made some timely interceptions. (7/10)

John O'Shea: Made a couple of of poor challenges, but overall he was strong at the back and helped to break down a number of Hull attacks. (6/10)

Santiago Vergini: Had a hard time dealing with the pace of Robertson and was eventually replaced by Van Aanholt. (6/10)

Midfield

Lee Cattermole: Not the best of games for the Sunderland midfielder, who gave the ball away cheaply and was booked for a poor foul on Meyler, before being replaced moments later. (5/10)

Liam Bridcutt: Could have easily been sent off for a terrible tackle on Jelavic early in the second half and did not see enough of the ball to make an impact. (5/10)

Sebastian Larsson: Barely had a touch and was not able to make a decent contribution in what was an underwhelming performance from the Swede. (5/10)

Jack Rodwell: Headed in the vital eqauliser for Sunderland, but it may have hit his hand before finding the net. He was involved in another controversial moment before the break, as his dive inside the box led to a booking and a sending off for his manager's reaction. (7/10)

Attack

Danny Graham: Worked hard for his side, but was not given enough support from his teammates and was eventually replaced by Wickham. (6/10)

Jermain Defoe: Another Sunderland striker who put in plenty of effort, but he didn't receive much service despite getting into some promising areas. (6/10)

Substitutes

Patrick Van Aanholt: Made a real impact after coming off the bench. It was his precise cross from the left that found Rodwell for the equaliser and he delivered another fine ball minutes later for the midfielder that was volleyed over. (7/10)

Ricky Alvarez: Showed some neat touches and provided added width for the Black Cats, but was well marshalled by the opposition. (6/10)

Connor Wickham: Came on for the final 16 minutes and showed plenty of effort to help his side battle to a draw. (6/10)
