Matty Fryatt scored a hat-trick as Hull City boosted their slim play-off chances with a 3-1 win over Barnsley at the KC Stadium tonight.
Prior to kickoff, the Tigers sat six points and four places below the play-off positions and Fryatt's treble saw them maintain that gap with just two games remaining.
The striker's first two goals came in the closing stages of the first period after the opening exchanges offered little in terms of goalmouth action.
The former Leicester City forward was on hand to convert Cameron Stewart's low cross-shot on 37 minutes and then struck again in similar fashion on the stroke of half time for his 14th of the season.
Hull were pegged back when Andy Gray headed in Reuben Noble-Lazarus's corner at the near post, but Fryatt secured the points and the match ball with his 83rd-minute effort.
If his first two goals were simple finishes, Fryatt completed his hat-trick in style by running from the halfway line before calmly slotting home.
