Hull City and Barnsley play out a 1-1 draw in Tuesday night's Championship match at the KCOM Stadium.

Championship relegation battlers Hull City and Barnsley have played out a 1-1 draw in Tuesday night's match at the KCOM Stadium.

The hosts began brightly as Jarrod Bowen saw an early effort charged down by the Tykes defence and Adama Diomande headed straight at opposition goalkeeper Nick Townsend.

Hull would rue those missed opportunities as the visitors went on to take the lead on 22 minutes.

Oliver McBurnie headed home from Brad Potts's cross for his fourth goal in four starts since joining Barnsley on loan from Swansea City.

Nigel Adkins's charges set about trying to draw level, with Seb Larsson firing from range but failing to test Townsend as the effort sailed wide.

At the other end, Kieffer Moore came close to doubling Barnsley's lead, but his effort from McBurnie's layoff was kept out by Allan McGregor.

The end of the first half saw a lengthy stoppage as Adam Jackson required treatment and was stretchered off with an apparent head injury following a mid-air collision with Jon Toral.

Hull came out with more intent after the restart, with Angus MacDonald and Bowen both testing Townsend with close-range headers.

The Tigers eventually drew level in the 73rd minute through Michael Dawson, who was in the right place to connect with a corner kick and rifle a volley beyond the reach of the opposition keeper.

Larsson brought a save out of Townsend with a free kick a few minutes later and Bowen was denied at the near post but, despite Hull dominating the latter stages of the game, it would end all square.

HULL CITY (4-2-3-1): McGregor; Aina, Dawson, MacDonald, Clark; Larsson, Irvine; Bowen, Toral (Keane 45'), Diomande (Grosicki 62'); Dicko (Campbell 70')

BARNSLEY (4-3-3): Townsend; Pinillos, Lindsay, Cavare, Jackson (Pearson 45'); Potts, Williams, Gardner; Thiam (Yiadom 62'), Moore, McBurnie (Moncur 78')
