Coventry City claimed all three points at the KC Stadium, with a 2-0 win in a scrappy game.
Coventry went close to opening the scoring in the third minute when Mclean met Andy Dawson's corner with a glancing header that went just wide.
Coventry goalkeeper Joe Murphy then pulled off a good save to keep out a 20-yard drive from Robbie Brady.
The away side took the lead in the 12th minute. Sammy Clingan delivered a free kick from the right and Martin Cranie's header was saved by Vito Mannone, before Liam Cooper put the rebound into his own net.
Matty Fryatt almost put Hull level four minutes later with a snap-shot from distance that went just wide of the far post.
Ten minutes before the break, Fryatt went close again when he connected with Mclean's cross to the near post, but the ball landed on the roof of the net.
The half-time whistle went with Coventry leading 1-0.
Both sides struggled to get a grip on the game in a second half of few chances.
Coventry pressed in a bid to finish the game off and managed to grab a second goal in the 86th minute through substitute Cody McDonald.
The Sky Blues saw out the game to claim a 2-0 victory and all three points.
