Premier League newcomers Hull City squeezed past Peterborough United, beating the League One side 1-0 courtesy of a Maynor Figueroa goal.
The hosts had the first meaningful shot of the match as Emile Sinclair tried to drive the ball across Steve Harper, but the Hull keeper was equal to it.
Peterborough should have taken the lead in the 21st minute when the ball looped over the defence into the path of Tyrone Barnett, but the striker somehow managed to miss an open goal.
Hull took full advantage of that let-off, going up the other end and scoring just a minute later through a fine strike from Figueroa.
The Tigers thought that that they had doubled their lead 20 minutes from time when Nick Proschwitz's header hit the back of the net, but their celebrations were cut short by the linesman's flag.
The rest of the second half passed without any major incident as Hull held on to record a narrow victory.
