Hull City leapfrog Watford into second place in the Championship courtesy of a 1-0 win over Burnley this evening.

Hull City have moved back into second place in the Championship table courtesy of a narrow 1-0 win over Burnley at Turf Moor this evening.

The visitors almost took the lead after just one minute when David Meyler's cross from the right found Stephen Quinn unmarked in the area, but he could only direct his header wide.

Burnley's first effort of note came through Alexander Kacaniklic, who picked up a loose ball following a scramble in the Hull area, only to flash his shot wide.

Ross Wallace was the first to test David Stockdale in the Hull goal, doing so with a 30-yard strike that Stockdale needed to be at full stretch to keep out.

Gedo almost found the opener seven minutes after the restart when he tried to squeeze an effort in at the near post, but Lee Grant was alert enough to push it out for a corner.

Just two minutes later, Sam Vokes almost scored with his first touch after coming on as a sub, but his header from six yards out bounced agonisingly wide.

Hull took the lead in the 66th minute when substitute Jay Simpson slipped the ball across to Quinn, who calmly slotted home to make it 1-0.

The hosts searched for a late equaliser, but couldn't find one in the closing stages as Hull moved back into the automatic promotion spots.
