Juventus have confirmed that Martin Caceres will be forced to undergo surgery on his injured ankle.
It was initially reported that the defender had suffered a severe sprain in training until further tests have revealed he sustained a "fracture of the medial malleolus", and he will now go under the knife in Turin on Monday.
The Serie A champions have refused to set a date for his return, but the versatile defender could miss the rest of the season as Massimiliano Allegri's side continue their bid for treble.
Juventus are back in action against Sassuolo on Monday evening.
