Udinese have stunned champions Juventus as Cyril Thereau's late goal secured a 1-0 win in Serie A at Juventus Stadium as Juve lost a home season opener for the first time in 87 years.
The home side dominated throughout and had the first big chance when former Udinese man Roberto Pereyra failed to punish his old club as Orestis Karnezis saved his effort from close range.
Udinese debutant Ali Adnan had his side's first attempt on goal when his shot from a tight angle hit the side-netting before Stephan Lichtsteiner stung Karnezis's palms with a near-post effort.
The impressive Swiss right-back then turned provider by swinging in a cross for Mario Mandzukic, but the Croatian striker could only head over the bar at the back post as the sides remained goalless at the half-time whistle.
Karnezis continued his assured display after the restart, saving comfortably from Simone Padoin before pulling off a vital block from a close-range Mandzukic effort and holding Patrice Evra's effort from distance.
With Udinese having been hanging on all match, they stunned the home crowd with 12 minutes remaining when Thereau peeled off his marker at the back post to slot home a cross from Panagiotis Kone to give the away side a shock lead.
With Juve shellshocked, Stefano Colantuono's side nearly doubled the lead when Kone lashed inches wide from the edge of the box and Silvan Widmer drew a superb save from Gianluigi Buffon, but Thereau's goal was enough to secure victory.
