A late goal from Kris Boyd has given Kilmarnock a 2-1 victory over St Mirren in their Scottish Premiership clash at Rugby Park this afternoon.
The hosts almost opened the scoring with two minutes on the clock when Lee Ashcroft powered a header at goal, but St Mirren goalkeeper Marian Kello was equal to the effort. Craig Slater rattled the visitor's crossbar with a rasping drive from outside the box shortly after.
Despite Kilmarnock's early pressure it was St Mirren who took the lead in the 17th minute, when Adam Campbell struck a low shot beyond Kello after being picked out by Steven Thompson.
Allan Johnston's side levelled the scores 10 minutes later through Rory McKenzie, who struck a rising effort into the top corner from inside the penalty area.
St Mirren improved after the break and Campbell was denied his second goal of the match when his effort was blocked by the hosts' defence with 10 minutes remaining.
However, it was Kilmarnock who netted the crucial second goal in stoppage time when Boyd fired home after being played through on goal by Robbie Muirhead.
The win moves Kilmarnock up to sixth place in the table, while St Mirren remain ninth.
