The Los Angeles Galaxy and Chivas USA played out a 1-1 draw in their MLS clash on Sunday.
The visitors took the lead in the 20th minute when Erick Torres collected a pass from Martin Rivero in the penalty area and slotted the ball past Jaime Penedo into the bottom corner.
Los Angeles looked to hit back straight away and nearly found an equaliser through Landon Donovan as he fired a curled effort at goal, which was tipped onto the post by Dan Kennedy while Marcelo Sarvas could only head the rebound into the keeper's hands.
The home side did draw level in the 35th minute when Sarvas lifted a cross to the back post from the right and Gyasi Zardes was there to power a header past Kennedy.
After the break, the Galaxy should have taken the lead as Zardes knocked a cross into path of Samuel at the back post, but he sent his volleyed effort well over the bar.
The hosts continued to press and Rob Friend did well to get a headed effort away at goal from a throw-in, but his attempt went just over the bar.
Chandler Hoffman came close to handing all three points to the Galaxy in the 90th minute when he collected Friend's flick-on and fired a first-time effort at goal, only to see it go inches wide of the post.
Zardes and Hoffman both had chances to win the game in the dying seconds, but the former missed his kick with only Kennedy to beat while the keeper did well to deny Hoffman from the follow-up.
