Lazio secured their place in the last 16 of the Europa League with a 2-0 victory over Borussia Monchengladbach this evening, winning 5-3 on aggregate.
Both sides started the game slowly but it was Lazio who got themselves in front with their first shot on target as Antonio Candreva picked up the ball in the box and blasted it past Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
Candreva was involved again as the home side almost doubled their lead as he teed up Senad Lulic on the edge of the area, but his left-footed shot went just past the post.
Lazio were dominating the game and finally doubled their lead in the 33rd minute when Alvaro Gonzalez drifted inside the penalty area and lifted a right-footed effort into the top corner.
After the break, Monchengladbach tried to get back into the tie as Amin Younes went close with a drilled shot from a tight angle, which went just past the post.
Candreva was again pulling the strings for Lazio as he came close to doubling their lead but saw two efforts well saved by Ter Stegen.
Luuk de Jong had a great chance to make the game interesting once more, as he was put through on goal by Jantschke but he couldn't find the target as he put his shot wide of the post, which ended the German side's hopes.
