A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Chris Kirkland.
Gloucestershire Police arrested the man in Cheltenham earlier today.
South Yorkshire Police confirmed yesterday that they knew the identity of the man responsible, and that he had previously been banned from football grounds when he was 16.
Kirkland was knocked to the ground in Friday's draw with Leeds United at Hillsborough.
Leeds manager Neil Warnock and Owls boss Dave Jones reacted angrily afterwards, calling for the man to be punished.
The FA are also investigating the incident.
