Leeds United defender Sam Byram continued his comeback from a long-term injury with an appearance for club's development side on Monday evening.

The 19-year-old, who has been out of action since April with a hip problem, played for an hour in the 2-1 win over Derby County.

"The good thing is that he got through 65 minutes, so he played most of the game," development squad manager Neil Redfearn told the club's official website.

"I think there is a little bit of stiffness there so he didn't need anymore. I think it was enough. Sam has been out for such a long time now and it's an injury that isn't going away quickly.

"We've got to be careful how much we give him and how much we expose him to this. Playing for more than an hour will give him confidence."

Byram is widely regarded as one of the most talented players outside of the Premier League.
