Steve Evans "massively excited" for Elland Road bow

Leeds United manager Steve Evans insists that he cannot wait to walk out at Elland Road this evening for his first home game in charge of the club.

Steve Evans has claimed that his first home game in charge of Leeds United will be the "pinnacle" of his managerial career.

The Scotsman was appointed as the Whites' new boss 10 days ago following the departure of Uwe Rosler.

Since taking charge of the Yorkshire outfit, Evans has guided his side to back-to-back draws on the road at Fulham and most recently Bolton Wanderers.

This evening's visit of Blackburn Rovers will give the ex-Rotherham United chief his first taste of life at Elland Road, and he admits that it is something he is relishing as Leeds look to pick up a first home win of the term.

"I'm massively excited," he is quoted as saying by the Yorkshire Evening Post. "Without a doubt it's the pinnacle for me. I didn't think I could be any more proud than driving into Wembley for a playoff final and driving out of Wembley having been successful but I have to accept that Leeds United is a completely different animal altogether.

"Hopefully it'll be remembered for all the right reasons. For any club at any level, you can't be going over seven months without winning at home. It's a staggering statistic. It's right to say it's a shocking statistic. We need to sort it.

"The players are hurting at that record. Let's not say any different. They sit and look at you in one-on-one chats and they know. It'll come down to a combination of everything but ultimately if you're good enough as a team then you don't not win a home game for seven months."

Leeds's current winless run on home soil stretches back 11 matches since they saw off Ipswich Town on March 4.
