Leeds United and Brentford share the spoils after the two sides played out a goalless draw at Elland Road.

Neither side were able to establish any dominance in an uneventful first half that produced very little goalmouth action.

Leeds looked the most likely to find a winner after the break, but they were unable to find a way past an inspired David Raya, who made a number of crucial saves to help his side claim a point.

The result will frustrate the hosts, who have failed to win any of their last six games, although they move up one place to 15th position in the Premier League table.

While Leeds are one point above the drop zone, the draw lifts Thomas Frank's side into eighth place, leaving them one point adrift of the top six.

The two sides experienced promising spells of possession in the opening 45 minutes, but they were both reduced to speculative efforts with clear-cut chances proving hard to come by.

Maximilian Wober whipped his free kick over the crossbar in the opening stages, while at the other end of the pitch, Mathias Jensen saw his powerful strike courageously blocked by Robin Koch.

As the contest drifted towards the interval, Rodrigo created space for himself on the edge of the box with some neat footwork, however, his tame left-footed shot was comfortably stopped by Raya, ensuring that Brentford have now gone six competitive games without conceding in the first period.

Leeds started the second half on the front foot, with Brenden Aaronson firing an effort straight at Raya, but the Brentford goalkeeper faced a sterner test moments later, diving down low to his left to prevent Rodrigo's fizzing effort from finding the bottom corner.

In the 67th minute, Leeds created an opening with a slick counter-attacking move, but there was still no way past Raya, who pulled off a fine stop at the near-post to deny Wilfried Gnonto, who had been played in by a well-weighted Rodrigo pass.

Moments later, Raya was forced to make a relatively routine save to thwart Jack Harrison, after the 26-year-old had drifted inside before unleashing a shot from the edge of the box.

Ivan Toney's late looping header drifted harmlessly wide, summing up a competitive game that had lacked a finishing touch.

Leeds will now prepare for next weekend's FA Cup fourth-round tie against either Accrington Stanley or Boreham Wood.

Meanwhile, Brentford will have two weeks to prepare for their Premier League meeting with Southampton after being knocked out of the cup by West Ham United. body check tags ::
