How Liverpool could line up against Leicester City

Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at how Liverpool could line up for Wednesday's EFL Cup third-round clash with Leicester City.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp should only be without two known absentees for Wednesday's EFL Cup third-round showdown with Leicester City at Anfield.

Neither Trent Alexander-Arnold (hamstring) nor Thiago Alcantara (hip) were available for Sunday's 3-1 Premier League win over West Ham United, which marked a sixth victory in a row for the men in red.

Alexander-Arnold is thought to be in with a small chance of coming back this week, but even if Klopp does give him the green light, a place among the substitutes surely awaits.

With a trip to in-form Tottenham Hotspur on the agenda for the weekend, Klopp will be expected to field a starting XI akin to last week's Europa League opener with LASK Linz, starting with Caoimhin Kelleher replacing Alisson Becker in goal.

Stefan Bajcetic did not make the squad to face West Ham, but the Spanish starlet only played for the first time this season against LASK following his adductor problem, so his absence was understandable.

The well-rested teenager could now occupy an inverted right-back role in the Liverpool rearguard, where Jarell Quansah, Ibrahima Konate and Kostas Tsimikas can be expected to join him.

Summer signings Ryan Gravenberch and Wataru Endo should make their first Anfield starts too, most likely alongside Harvey Elliott in the midfield trident as Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai are rested.

Cody Gakpo and Diogo Jota - scorer of Liverpool's third at the weekend - are in line to displace Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez too, while 17-year-old Ben Doak ought to demote Mohamed Salah to the bench too.

Liverpool possible starting lineup: Kelleher; Bajcetic, Konate, Quansah, Tsimikas; Elliott, Endo, Gravenberch; Doak, Gakpo, Jota body check tags ::
