Steven Gerrard has described his relationship with former Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez as "distant and emotionless".
The 35-year-old midfielder, who left the Reds in May after 17 years at the club, played under five managers at Anfield - Benitez, Gerard Houllier, Roy Hodgson, Kenny Dalglish and Brendan Rodgers.
In his autobiography, Gerrard wrote: "I can pick up the phone and speak to all of my previous Liverpool managers, except for Rafa.
"It's a shame because we shared the biggest night of our careers - the 2005 Champions League victory in Istanbul - yet there is no bond between us."
However, he went on to add: "An emotionless and distant relationship with the likes of Rafa Benitez and Fabio Capello can sometimes produce more success."
Gerrard is now playing for MLS club Los Angeles Galaxy, while Benitez is at the helm of Real Madrid.
