Jordan Henderson has urged his Liverpool teammates not to get carried away after moving to within two points of a Champions League qualification berth.
The Reds saw off fellow top-four rivals Southampton 2-0 at St Mary's this evening to close the gap on Manchester United, courtesy of goals either side of half time from Philippe Coutinho and Raheem Sterling.
Results elsewhere this weekend have largely gone Liverpool's way also, with United losing at Swansea City and Tottenham Hotspur being held to a 2-2 draw at home to West Ham United.
Speaking after his side's impressive victory on the South Coast, Henderson told Sky Sports News: "It's a big win. We knew coming here would be difficult as they are a good side and we had to be at our best.
"From the defence right through the team we were excellent. It was the perfect performance really. Philippe Coutinho's goal was outstanding but he does that a lot in training.
"He is outstanding, he got his goal and to give us big lift from the start. It's a good weekend for us, but most important is that we win and keep winning and concentrate on what we need to do."
Liverpool, who are now unbeaten in 10 league outings, turn their attention to European commitments in the week when they contest the second leg of their round-of-32 tie against Besiktas.
