Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva will miss the rest of the season following confirmation that the Brazil international has knee ligament damage.
The Premier League side have announced that the 24-year-old has caused damage to the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee following a scan on the injury.
The playmaker was stretchered off during Liverpool's 2-1 win over Chelsea in the Carling Cup at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday.
It appears that Lucas's long-term injury prompted the Reds to recall Jonjo Shelvey from loan club Blackpool.
