Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany has reportedly earmarked Liverpool number one Alisson Becker as a surprise transfer target for the summer of 2025.
The 31-year-old still has three years left to run on his contract with the Reds, but the Merseyside giants will welcome Giorgi Mamardashvili to the club from Valencia at the end of the season, having struck a £29m deal over the summer.
Mamardashvili's impending arrival is not a guarantee that Alisson will leave in 2025, though, as the Brazilian still has three years on his contract and could realistically keep on playing for another decade.
However, the financial powerhouses of the Saudi Pro League are expected to try to tempt Alisson away with a lucrative contract next year, although the 31-year-old recently confirmed that he had turned down the chance to make the move to the Middle East.
At the same time, Alisson affirmed that he was happy at Liverpool and either wanted to see out his contract until 2027 or sign a renewal, but it will be interesting to see what happens if Mamardashvili becomes Arne Slot's new number one right away.
Alisson to succeed Manuel Neuer at Bayern Munich?
Should Alisson feel that he still has something to offer in the top level of European football, he could be handed a Bundesliga lifeline, as The Sun claims that Bayern Munich are keeping an eye on developments.
The veteran Manuel Neuer still guards the posts for the Bavarians, but the World Cup winner will turn 39 next year and is only under contract at the Allianz Arena until the end of the season.
Bayern head coach Kompany - who played against Alisson during the last knockings of his Manchester City career - is apparently 'very keen' to work with the Brazilian next season, thereby setting aside their differences from their Premier League title rivalries.
Liverpool are also said to be 'braced' for Alisson to leave the club in the near future, but given his contract situation, the Reds would apparently demand a 'fortune' to sell to the German giants next summer.
During a glittering six years at Liverpool, Alisson has kept 117 clean sheets in 269 appearances, winning seven pieces of silverware including the Champions League, Premier League and Club World Cup.
Will Neuer leave Bayern in 2025?
Goalkeepers continuing their careers after their 40th birthdays is extremely common, especially for those of Neuer's calibre and standing, although his recent fitness problems may show that his age is now catching up to him.
The 38-year-old seemingly still harbours aspirations of another season in between the posts, though as journalist Christian Falk - via iMiaSanMia - reports that contract talks are scheduled for the spring.
Neuer is apparently keen to focus purely on Bayern Munich for the 2025-26 season and hopes to play his way into a new deal with strong showings, having now retired from national team duty.
However, the Germany legend is not believed to have fully closed the door on his international career, though, and he would consider playing at the 2026 World Cup - at which point he would be 40 - if he is still in good shape.
Neuer called time on representing his country after Euro 2024, where he played every minute for the host nation en route to a 2-1 extra-time loss to Spain in the quarter-finals. body check tags ::
