Liverpool have reportedly identified Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn as a potential summer transfer target.

As a result of Georginio Wijnaldum departing Anfield on a free transfer, Jurgen Klopp is in the market for a fresh face in the middle of the pitch.

According to The Athletic, Klopp is an admirer of McGinn, who has just enjoyed a strong campaign in the West Midlands.

The Scotland international contributed three goals and five assists from 37 starts in the Premier League, helping his side finish in mid-table.

However, the report suggests that Villa have placed a £50m price-tag on the 26-year-old, leaving Liverpool in a position where they will have to sell before they can pursue a deal.

The Merseyside giants are already attempting to part ways with a number of fringe players before the start of the new season. body check tags ::
