Lorient moved out of the Ligue 1 relegation zone on Saturday night thanks to a 2-1 win over Sochaux at Stade du Moustoir.
Vincent Aboubakar and Yann Jouffre struck either side of half time on the home team's path to victory, before Cedric Bakambu pulled one back late on for the away side.
The first chance of the match fell to the hosts in the 12th minute, but Mathieu Coutadeur's shot was well stopped by Simon Pouplin in the Sochaux goal.
Lorient went ahead in the 19th minute, when Bryan Pele's chip from the right side of the penalty area was powered into the bottom corner by a late-arriving Aboubakar's volley.
Sochaux had a chance to level the match nine minutes later when Roy Contout's cross was blocked which led to Rafael Dias having a pop at goal, but he smashed a poor effort over the bar.
Despite Sochaux's bright start to the second half, Lorient doubled their lead in the 55th minute when Jouffre cooly side-footed a low pass into the corner of the net from just inside the box.
Sochaux did get one back in stoppage time when Bakambu finished off a nice passing move to slot past Fabien Audard at the near post, but it was too little too late for the visitors.
Lorient climb out of the bottom three into 17th place, while Sochaux remain rooted to 19th.
