Luton Town announce that they have signed former Chelsea player Victor Moses on a free transfer.

Luton Town have announced that they have completed the signing of former Chelsea star Victor Moses.

Despite optimism ahead of their return to the Championship, the Hatters have endured a dismal start to the new campaign.

Rob Edwards's side have accumulated just one point from a possible 12, leaving the club sitting in 23rd position in the second-tier standings.

However, Luton and Edwards have moved to improve the situation by adding Nigeria international Moses to their squad on a free transfer.

The versatile wide man had been available ever since his time at Spartak Moscow - which had lasted since October 2020 - had come to an end at the end of last season.

"We have been talking for quite a while"

Although Moses is lacking sharpness and has played just 60 minutes in a behind-closed-doors fixture, Edwards has acted to add more quality and depth to his squad.

Speaking to the club's official website, he said: "Victor is one we've been talking to for quite a while. He trained with us last week and played 60 minutes in a behind closed doors game, and we made a decision because we think he's able to come in and help us.

"He gives us more strength in depth and versatility, because he's someone who can play both sides or as a number ten.

"He's played for so many different clubs in different ways and shapes, and under different managers, so he's tactically aware. We think he's someone who can provide some really good competition for us.

"I don't want to put too much pressure on him and expect too much too soon. He's not going to come in and start the games straight away. He's got to get used to what we do and how we play, but he's fit, he's able to come in and affect it now, and he definitely makes the squad stronger."

An under-rated former Chelsea star

Now 33 years of age, Moses is past his peak, and making just 84 appearances for Spartak Moscow since football resumed after the start of the coronavirus pandemic highlights that he has not enjoyed an ideal stint with the Russian giants.

Nevertheless, as well as accumulating the second most games for one club in his career, he still left with 10 goals and 10 assists to his name.

Moses rarely gets mentioned as a former Chelsea star, but he remarkably scored in each of the four quarter-final and semi-final fixtures in the successful 2012-13 Europa League triumph.

Furthermore, he started 29 of the games in Antonio Conte's Premier League-winning campaign in 2016-17, with a total of 18 goals and 12 assists coming from his 128 outings in a Chelsea shirt.

Luton will be his 10th club in total having also represented Crystal Palace, Wigan Athletic, Liverpool, Stoke City, West Ham United, Fenerbahce and Inter Milan. body check tags ::
