Lyon moved into sixth place in Ligue 1, behind Marseille on goal difference.

Lyon manager Bruno Genesio believes victory in the Choc des Olympiens derby capped off a "great week" after their 4-2 triumph over Marseille.

Les Gones produced the biggest shock in the opening round of the Champions League in midweek when they defeated Manchester City in a 2-1 win at the Etihad Stadium.

Some would have forgiven Lyon if they struggled to see off Marseille, who were aiming to move into second place behind runaway leaders Paris St Germain with victory, but Bertrand Traore was in imperious form.

The former Chelsea winger played a part in all four goals as Lyon recorded two wins and a draw in nine days.

Genesio, as quoted on the club's Twitter account, said: "We played a high-quality second half. It would have been great to win at Caen (last week), but it's a great week nonetheless.

"We were able to react and that's the most important thing.

"I'm lucky to have a deep squad. Bertrand Traore showed it again tonight. This allows me to be able to use different guys without dropping the level of play.

"We must now succeed at Dijon."

Houssem Aouar gave the home side the lead after 27 minutes with a cool finish but Marseille were level at the break thanks to Florian Thauvin's sixth goal in as many league matches.

Traore, who started on the bench after the victory against Premier League champions, scored two in a nine-minute spell before earning a penalty for Nabil Fekir to convert as Lyon took hold of the clash.

Clinton N'Jie grabbed a consolation with 10 minutes left but Marseille, who also had Duje Caleta-Car dismissed late on, suffered their first defeat in four league matches.

Traore replaced Maxwel Cornet, who scored the opener against City, in the starting line-up and the Burkina Faso international explained that he was desperate to make the most of his opportunity.

He added: "I was disappointed to be on the bench on Wednesday. I wanted to react tonight.

"I am very happy with both goals. We must repeat these performances."
