Good evening! Thank you very much for joining Sports Mole for tonight's Champions League quarter-final second leg between Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain. Both these clubs have been desperate for European domination ever since their respective investments, and one will tonight get to the semi-finals for the first time since they became among the richest clubs in the world. The tie is finely poised at 2-2, and we're expecting another cracking contest between the two teams here. Let's start with a look at the team news...

MAN CITY STARTING XI: Hart; Sagna, Otamendi, Mangala, Clichy; Fernando, Fernandinho, Navas, Silva, De Bruyne; Aguero

MAN CITY SUBS: Caballero, Iheanacho, Bony, Toure, Delph, Kolarov, Zabaleta

While we wait for PSG's lineup to be released, let's first take a look at that Man City team. There aren't many surprises from Manuel Pellegrini in truth, with Hart keeping his place between the sticks despite receiving criticism for the West Bromwich Albion goal at the weekend when he was beaten too easily at his near post. He only returned from injury in the first leg of this tie, immediately making a difference by saving a penalty from Ibrahimovic.

There are two changes in defence as Pellegrini returns to what appears to be his first-choice back four now, at least as far as injuries allow. Kompany would, of course, be in there ordinarily, but despite returning to training he is not yet ready to feature this evening, which is a big blow for City. They have lost just three times with Kompany on the field this season, while the likes of Otamendi and Mangala have been shaky at times. The changes come on the flanks, though, with Sagna and Clichy replacing Zabaleta and Kolarov.

Yaya Toure once again has to settle for a place on the bench this evening having only returned from injury as a sub at the weekend, but Pellegrini does make a few changes in the middle of the park having handed rare starts to the likes of Delph, Nasri and Bony against West Brom. Fernandinho, who scored what could prove to be the crucial second away goal in Paris, returns to the starting XI alongside Fernando, who gifted PSG their opening goal in the first leg.

In the more advanced midfield roles, Kevin de Bruyne returns to the side having opened the scoring for City in Paris - one of seven different players to have scored City's last seven Champions League goals. Silva has also shaken off an ankle problem to start, while the main danger man Sergio Aguero, who was relatively quiet in the first leg, has also overcome a knock. He has scored 16 goals in his last 19 Champions League starts, and could be key if the hosts are to hold out against PSG tonight.

PSG STARTING XI: Trapp; Van der Wiel, Aurier, Thiago Silva, Marquinhos, Maxwell; Thiago Motta, Rabiot; Cavani, Ibrahimović, Di María,

PSG SUBS: Sirigu, Kimpembe, Stambouli, Lucas, Kurzawa, Pastore, Ongenda

What can we make of PSG's side, then? Well, it is an interesting selection from Laurent Blanc, who looks like he is changing tactic for today's game and going for three at the back, with Van der Wiel and Maxwell as wing-backs. Aurier, who made his first start since February in the first leg, returns to the side and may be chosen as the right wing-back ahead of Van der Wiel, with one of those two players expected to slot into the middle alongside Silva and Marquinhos.

There is no David Luiz for PSG due to suspension after he picked up a yellow card inside 10 seconds of the first leg, but PSG's three other Brazilian defenders all play as Maxwell makes up the unit on the left flank. It is likely that Blanc has made the change for attacking reasons given that the onus is on them to get goals tonight, while the absence of Matuidi, also through suspension, may have something to do with it too.

Matuidi will watch on from the sidelines along with Marco Verratti, who remains out with a groin injury. That means that Motta and Rabiot will patrol the midfield, possibly alongside Angel di Maria if PSG go for a 3-5-2 formation. Di Maria has been a creative force all season and tonight returns to Manchester for the first time since his unhappy spell at United ended. He certainly didn't do himself justice on these shores, and may feel that he has a point to prove tonight as a result.

Up front, Cavani returns to the starting XI having been one of many players rested in the win over Guingamp at the weekend. The Uruguayan didn't start either leg against Chelsea in the last 16, but returned the first leg of this one and, while he has relatively ineffective in that game, gets the nod again tonight ahead of Lucas Moura, who scored twice at the weekend. The main threat will be Ibrahimovic, though. He has scored in each of his last five Champions League games and has directly contributed to six of PSG's last eight goals in this competition.

There is plenty of firepower in that PSG side, then, and Man City will know that their job is far from over heading into the second half of this tie. They applied themselves well six days ago in Paris and, while they were somewhat fortunate to catch PSG on a bit of an off day, they have put themselves in a very good position ahead of tonight's match. They have never been this close to the semi-finals of the Champions League before, and history beckons if they can complete the job here.

It could have been ever better for City in Paris last week. They opened the scoring with a crucial away goal from De Bruyne, but then gifted the hosts an equaliser when Fernando's pass rebounded off the foot of Ibrahimovic and into an empty net. It was a calamitous way to surrender such a valuable lead, but after Rabiot had given PSG a 2-1 advantage, Fernandinho ensured that City would hold the cards at the halfway stage by notching the second away goal.

Including that match, City have now lost just one of their last seven outings in all competitions, crucially keeping four clean sheets in that time. If they can keep another clean sheet tonight then they will be in the semi-finals, but that is much easier said than done against a side with PSG's attacking qualities. City could still draw 1-1 and go through, though, which is perhaps good news for a side who have only managed to win four of their last 13 outings.

The latest of those wins came on Saturday as they beat West Bromwich Albion at the Etihad Stadium, although it wasn't entirely straightforward. City fell behind after just six minutes to Sessegnon's crisp strike, but a penalty from Aguero levelled things up before Nasri marked his first start since September with the winning goal. With Manchester United losing to Spurs on Sunday, that means that City now boast a four-point lead over their local rivals and are only two short of Arsenal in third.

They remain 15 points adrift of leaders Leicester, though, and with their title dreams now a distant memory then can afford to put even more focus on the Champions League. It remains to be seen whether they can compete with the elite European teams, with the likes of Barcelona and Bayern Munich seemingly a level above the rest at the moment, but the competition could be kind to them to this season. Wolfsburg are in a strong position against Real Madrid heading into their second leg tonight, while Benfica are still very much in their tie against Bayern Munich. Should City beat PSG and draw either of those teams in the semi-finals then they will fancy their chances of going all the way to the final.

That would be some achievement for Pellegrini to depart on, and the statistics suggest that he will at least get to the semi-finals. Of teams to have drawn 2-2 in the away first leg of a Champions League tie, 82% have gone on to qualify for the next round. City themselves have drawn an away first leg six times in European competition, and have gone on to win the tie on each occasion. They haven't been at this stage of the competition before, but Pellegrini has made it to the semi-finals once, with Villarreal in 2006.

There are a few concerns for City, though. They have only won two of their last six home games in all competitions after a run of 12 wins in 14 before that, while in the Premier League this season then have lost five times in front of their own fans - the same number as Swansea and Newcastle. In the Champions League they have only won three of their last nine home games, although two of those did come earlier this term.

Crucially, Man City have only kept one clean sheet in their nine Champions League games this season, and that was in a 0-0 against Dynamo Kiev which was effectively a dead rubber after City's 3-1 away win in the first leg of that tie. That suggests that the hosts will need to score tonight, as PSG will be very confident of doing so themselves. A 2-2 scoreline after the first leg puts them at a slight disadvantage, but it won't affect their confidence as they know they have more than enough goals in their side to make that up.

Indeed, they have scored two or more goals in each of their last five Champions League games, which is all that they need to do tonight providing they don't concede more than that at the other end of the pitch. That run includes a 2-1 win at Stamford Bridge in the second leg of their last-16 clash with Chelsea, a repeat of which would be ideal for PSG tonight. In all competitions, Blanc's side have managed to score two or more goals in 36 of their 50 games this season, including in 14 of their 23 away games.

Their most recent outing came away to Guingamp on Saturday, and it was another step towards what looks to be a record-breaking season for PSG. Lucas scored twice in a 2-0 victory as Blanc rested a whole host of big names ahead of this match, while Monaco's slip-up at the weekend means that PSG now have a whopping 28-point gap over second place in Ligue 1. Considering the record winning margin is 17 points, it appears as though this PSG side is set to become the most dominant team in Ligue 1 history.

They have already wrapped up the title with an unprecedented eight games to spare, and while they still have work to do in this tie, right now they are in with a shout of winning the quadruple this season. In addition to have won the league already, they are in the final of the Coupe de la Ligue and semis of the Coupe de France, although domestic success is regarded as the minimum for PSG now. It is all about European success for them at the moment.

PSG have lost just three of their last 57 matches in all competitions, while their only two since losing to Real Madrid in November came against the other two members of Ligue 1's top three, one of which came in the game after PSG had wrapped up the title. They did that in style too, thrashing Troyes 9-0 to seal yet another Ligue 1 crown with their highest ever win in the league and the division's biggest away victory ever.

That drubbing is one of an ongoing run of four consecutive away matches that PSG have won, while they have only lost once in their last 14 outings and twice in 23 away games this season. One of those defeats came at the Bernabeu too as Real Madrid ran out 1-0 winners in the group stages of this competition - the only goal PSG conceded in those groups. It is also the only away Champions League game that PSG have failed to win this season, with three of four ending in victories.

Their record having drawn the first leg at home in Europe is mixed, with six wins and six defeats, but when that first leg has ended 2-2 PSG have lost all three ties. They are still fancied by many to get through this tie, largely due to Man City's questionable recent form in front of their own fans, but they will need to play better than they did in the first leg if that is going to happen.

PREDICTION: We're 10 minutes away from kickoff at the Etihad, which means that it is time for a prediction! This is a very tough one to call considering how unpredictable City have been at home this season. PSG have goals in them, but if City play to their best then they are a match for the visitors. I can see it being another open game, and I'm going for a 2-2 draw that will take it to extra time, and then Man City to win.

PSG have only ever won one of their past seven away games against English opposition, drawing three and losing three of the remaining six. However, they are also unbeaten in their last five matches against Premier League teams, four of which came against Chelsea and then the first leg of this tie. They have met English teams in five knockout ties before, winning three of those and losing two.

These two sides had only ever met once before the first leg a week ago, with that coming in the UEFA Cup group stages in 2008-09. It ended in a goalless draw, although both teams have changed a lot since then and the likelihood of that scoreline again tonight is minimal. Hart, Kompany and Zabaleta are the only survivors from that contest still with City today.

The first leg was an action-packed affair that saw poor defending cost both sides. Ibrahimovic missed a penalty for the hosts in Paris before getting his name on the scoresheet with a freak goal to cancel out De Bruyne's opener. Rabiot then put his side ahead shortly before the hour, but Fernandinho hit back with a deflected effort in the 72nd minute after PSG had failed to clear their lines.

Right, the players are out and we're ready to go here in Manchester! What a huge game for both sides this is.

KICKOFF: Here we go then! PSG get us underway at the Etihad but it is Man City who are straight on the attack, making a bright start to the game.

The first thing to note is that PSG have gone for three at the back, with Van der Wiel and Maxwell acting as the full-backs. Aurier is in an unfamiliar central role, and it appears as though PSG have gone for three up front too. Very interesting switch of tactics from Laurent Blanc.

Man City have made a good, lively start to this match. They look eager to get a goal early and really get the home fans behind them at what is a packed Etihad Stadium tonight.

Good spell of possession for PSG as they begin to settle into the game and knock the ball about nicely. City seem happy enough to just contain them in the middle third without really pushing on to win it back.

The visitors' latest passing move sees them eventually find a gap and Di Maria looks to poke it through to Cavani, but he puts just too much on it and Hart collects.

Aguero does look to win the ball back high up the field here, sliding in on Di Maria. However, he is the wrong side to make the challenge and, while he does get a foot on the ball, the referee awards a free kick.

PSG are just bossing possession at the moment, and while Man City can allow the visitors to see a lot of the ball as long as it is not hurting them, I expected them to come out of the blocks a bit quicker than this. If they're happy to chase the ball for the entire game then they are sure to tire sooner or later.

So far the City defence has coped comfortably with everything that has come their way. Ibrahimovic has barely had a kick so far, and neither goalkeeper has been tested yet.

Half a chance for PSG here as Fernandinho brings Rabiot down to concede a free kick around 30 yards from goal. It is right on the edge of shooting range, but Ibrahimovic looks like he fancies it...

SAVE! It is a fabulous strike from Ibrahimovic as he smashes a powerful, curling effort towards goal that Hart needs to tip over. That was almost a worldie from the Swede, who has done little else in the opening stages of the match.

UPDATE: Real Madrid have already wiped out that first-leg deficit against Wolfsburg, with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring twice in as many minutes to give his side a 2-0 lead on the night and level things up at 2-2 on aggregate.

Pellegrini promised that City would play their usual attacking game tonight, but that hasn't been the case so far. They are very much on the back foot and seem pretty content with it. It is a dangerous game to try to contain this PSG side, though.

CHANCE! City have their first sight of goal as they sweep forward and up the tempo of the match. De Bruyne exchanges passes with Silva before sliding a pass down the left channel for Aguero, whose strike from a tight angle is wide of the near post.

CLOSE! Another close one from Aguero here as City catch Ibrahimovic in possession inside the PSG half and immediately give it to the Argentine. He tries to arrow a shot into the bottom corner from 25 yards, but his dipping strike bounces narrowly wide.

It's been better over the past few minutes for City, and it has all come from them increasing the tempo of things, both on and off the ball. They win a free kick in a good crossing position here...

The initial delivery is dealt with, but De Bruyne then threads a pass through to Silva in the left channel. He looks up and tries to pull the ball back for Sagna in space, but Van der Wiel makes an important interception.

Good work from Van der Wiel down the right flank, selling Clichy a dummy to creat time and space to cross. His resulting delivery is really poor, though, and goes all the way out for a throw in on the other side.

Oh what a big moment that could prove to be! City are awarded a penalty as Aguero races into the box and gets to the ball before Trapp, who proceeds to clean the Argentine out. It is a stone-waller, and the big decision then for the ref is whether it is a red card or not. Trapp is only shown a yellow, though, and PSG are handed another let-off when Aguero puts his penalty wide of the target! It is a glorious opportunity missed for the hosts!

City seem to have reacted to that missed penalty fairly well. They were on top in the build-up to the award of the spot kick, and have retained that control over the game. It will be a disappointment for the hosts, but as things stand they are still the team progressing.

PSG just can't get going at the moment. Earlier in the game they were passing it about well without really going anywhere, but right now they are struggling to even keep hold of the ball for any period of time.

There is concern over Aguero for City here as he lands awkwardly and goes down clutching his knee. He has been in the wars already tonight, and this one looks to be the most painful of the lot.

The stretcher comes on for the striker, but he is back on his feet and slowly limps off. It looks like he'll try to continue here, which is great news for the home side.

Both teams have enjoyed spells on top in this half so far, and right now it is Man City's turn. They will be happy with how this game is going at the moment.

CHANCE! Sloppy play from PSG gifts Man City a good shooting chance here, but it falls to the wrong man. The visitors win the ball back deep inside their own half, but quickly gift it back to City through a loose Aurier pass. Navas picks it up just outside the area, but he curls his shot a couple of yards wide when he should have hit the target.

There is concern for Motta here as he clutches his hamstring and limps off for treatment. It looks as though he will try to run it off, but that doesn't usually work with muscle injuries. I would be surprised if he came back out for the second half.

PSG SUB: Indeed, Motta doesn't even last until half time as he is replaced by Lucas Moura.

There will be three minutes of added time at the end of this first half.

The referee brings an end to the first half at the Etihad Stadium, and it is as you were for City and PSG. The second leg remains goalless, which means that the aggregate scoreline is still 2-2 with City on course for the semi-finals via away goals. Man City will be the happier of the two teams at this stage having created the better chances and limited PSG to just one long-range strike.

City will feel that they should be in a better position, though, having been awarded a penalty on the half-hour mark. Aurier gave the ball away to launch a City attack, with the ball being slid through to Aguero. He nipped in before Trapp could get to the ball and was taken out by the keeper, leaving the referee no choice but to point to the spot. The main decision to make was whether Trapp should be sent off or not, but the referee opted for just a yellow. Aguero then gave City another let-off by placing his spot kick wide of the target.

PSG's sloppiness has been a feature of the first half, and it was another loose pass from Aurier that gifted Navas a decent chance towards the end of the half. His square ball went straight to the Spaniard just outside the area, but his curling effort flew a couple of yards wide of the target when he should have at least tested the keeper.

Aguero has been heavily involved for City, being on the end of a few tough challenges but also managing to get into some good positions. As well as the penalty, Aguero fired two more efforts wide of the target in quick succession midway through the half. In contrast, PSG have been very quiet in attack, with their only meaningful effort on goal coming from a 30-yard Ibrahimovic free kick that Hart needed to tip over the crossbar.

KICKOFF: Manchester City get us back underway for the second half, with just 45 minutes separating them from the semi-finals of the Champions League as things stand.

Free kick in a very dangerous position for PSG here as Fernandinho brings down Cavani. This is closer than Ibrahimovic's first-half effort, and the Swede is standing over it again...

SAVE! It is another thunderbolt from Ibrahimovic which bends around the wall, but Hart is there again to parry it away. Important stop from the City keeper!

Ibrahimovic has fired in two really good free kicks, but Hart would have been disappointed to let either in and he hasn't been tested otherwise. This has been a very below-par performance from the visitors so far.

Hart is called into action again here, but it is a routine gather from Van der Wiel's cross. PSG worked it well down the right, but the low ball into the middle was too close to the keeper.

PSG have the ball in the back of the net, but the flag is raised a long time before Lucas applies the finish. Maxwell was the man offside down the left flank before playing a low pass across goal that Lucas tapped in.

Good spell of pressure from City as they halt what had been a positive start to the second half from PSG. This tie is still right in the balance, with one goal for PSG changing the dynamic of things completely.

Good chance for City to break as Aguero brings down a high ball from De Bruyne brilliantly on the touchline. Navas then picks it up, but he slows the attack down and City lose their momentum.

CHANCE! Decent opening for City from a corner as Fernando manages to get the better of Marquinhos in the middle to get his head to the ball. However, he heads it down into the ground and wide of the target.

PSG SUB: Aurier has had a bit of a shocker tonight, and he makes way here to be replaced by Javier Pastore, which should also see a switch back to PSG's normal formation. Blanc's gamble has not worked tonight.

Things are only going to get more tense over this final half an hour for City. They have been comfortable all night so far, particularly from open play, but it takes just one chance for PSG to turn this game on its head.

CHANCE! Big chance for PSG as Silva escapes his marker from a corner. He is in space and rises to meet it well, but he nods it into the ground and Hart is able to turn it over.

YELLOW CARD! Pastore goes into the book just six minutes after coming on for a sliding challenge on Fernandinho.

YELLOW CARD! Van der Wiel joins Pastore in the book for a naughty raking challenge from behind on De Bruyne.

City are now just 20 minutes away from the Champions League semi-finals, but even though PSG have been so disappointing tonight, you'd expect them to create another good chance before full time.

YELLOW CARD! Fernandinho becomes the first City player in the book for an untidy challenge on Pastore. No complaints there.

City are still pushing for a goal of their own, which would give them a very handy a cushion with only 15 minutes remaining. One for the hosts would mean that PSG would need two to progress.

And there is the goal! De Bruyne opened the scoring in Paris last week, and he has done the same again here to send the Etihad wild! It is good, patient possession from the hosts inside the PSG half before Fernando lays the ball off to De Bruyne, who took one touch to beat a defender before curling a clinical finish into the bottom corner. It looks like City are on course for the semis!

CLOSE! City go in search of a quickfire second as Aguero comes forward, but he slips while striking the ball from 25 yards and his strike flies a couple of yards wide.

UPDATE: Cristiano Ronaldo has completed yet another hat-trick for Real Madrid to give them a 3-0 lead at the Bernabeu and a 3-2 lead on aggregate. As things stand, they will be joining City in the last four.

CHANCE! Big chance for PSG to get a goal back as Cavani is slid through down the left channel. He advances into the box, but Hart comes flying off his line to close the gap and makes an important save to deny the Uruguayan.

A reminder that PSG now need two goals to progress tonight, which makes that Hart save all the more important. Had he not kept that out then it would have been very nervy for City.

MAN CITY SUB: De Bruyne gets a standing ovation as he departs to be replaced by Yaya Toure.

DISALLOWED GOAL! PSG think that they have given themselves a lifeline as Ibrahimovic tucks away Maxwell's cross from close range. However, his celebrations are quickly cut short by the linesman's flag, which is correctly raised.

MAN CITY SUB: Another change for the home side sees Fabian Delph replace Silva.

It is getting very close to celebration time for Man City tonight, and they deserve it. Everyone expected PSG to win this tie, and certainly to score tonight to ask serious questions of Pellegrini's side, but they have upset the odds here.

There will be three added minutes at the end of this match.

MAN CITY SUB: A third and final change for the hosts sees Aguero replaced by Kelechi Iheanacho.

What a result, and what a night for Manchester City! They book their place in the semi-finals of the Champions League for the first time ever courtesy of a 1-0 win over PSG this evening, sealing a 3-2 victory on aggregate. PSG were so disappointing this evening, but City certainly deserve their place in the last four over the two legs.

The only goal of the second leg came with just under 15 minutes remaining when Kevin de Bruyne curled a smart finish into the bottom corner from the edge of the box. That took the pressure completely off City, leaving PSG needing two goals to progress, which they never really threatened to get. Aguero had earlier missed a penalty for City, but that didn't prove to be costly in the end.
