Glenn Hoddle: 'Manchester City haven't learned from European mistakes'

Glenn Hoddle insists that Manchester City's struggles in the Champions League will continue until they alter their approach.

Glenn Hoddle is adamant that Manchester City have not learned their lessons from their past failings in the Champions League.

Manuel Pellegrini's side were held to 1-1 draw by Roma at the Etihad Stadium, which has put them five points behind Bayern Munich at the top of Group E following their defeat to the German side in their first match of the competition.

Hoddle feels that the Citizens look suspect at the back and may need to alter their approach to enjoy the success they do in the Premier League in Europe's top tournament.

He told Sky Sports News: "For me, at the moment, they do struggle in Europe. There's a mental barrier there that they've got to pass. I notice they still play with two up. Maybe that's not a problem, but if you've got Toure in midfield in a four, you are going to be vulnerable.

"They created some chances and on another night they might have won that game, but Roma, for an away side, had too many chances.

"They have two up and don't drop anybody in. They got outnumbered a few years back against Bayern and I don't think they've learned their lesson."

City are next in action against Aston Villa in their Premier League clash on Saturday.
