Lee Johnson relishing semi-final showdown with Manchester City

Lee Johnson says that he has a soft spot for Manchester City, who his Bristol City side will take on over two legs in the semi-finals of the EFL Cup.

Bristol City manager Lee Johnson has admitted that locking horns with Manchester City in the semi-finals of the EFL Cup will be "amazing" for everyone associated with the club.

The Robins continued their memorable run in the competition by pulling off a shock 2-1 win against Manchester United on Wednesday night, adding to their growing list of Premier League scalps.

Watford, Stoke City and Crystal Palace have also been defeated by City en route to their first-ever appearance in the last four, as well as League One side Plymouth Argyle.

Johnson acknowledges just how big a test next opponents Man City pose, however, describing them as "a beast" of a side after going nearly half the season without a domestic defeat.

"It keeps everybody talking, it keeps the city buzzing, and all of the press that the players get, they deserve," Sky Sports News quotes him as saying. "Manchester City, personally, have been fantastic with me ever since I have been a manager.

"People like [executive] Brian Marwood have accepted me in behind the scenes there, and allowed me to visit various clubs in their group. It will be amazing for the players, first and foremost, to test themselves, but also for myself and the fans to hopefully have two great days.

"From when I was [manager] at Oldham, which was just around the corner, I've been let in on a number of occasions. [Man City] is a beast of an organisation, but it is so fascinating. You see the football that they play - it's unbelievable to watch."

Bristol City are also flying high in the Championship, sitting third and four points off an automatic promotion spot.
