Manuel Pellegrini: 'Sergio Aguero injury could not be avoided'

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini insists that Sergio Aguero's hamstring injury could not have been avoided.

Manuel Pellegrini has insisted that he has no regrets over his decision to play Sergio Aguero in the FA Cup victory over Watford a week ago after the forward was ruled out for a month with a hamstring injury.

Despite admitting that he would have liked to give Aguero more of a rest, Pellegrini believes that playing a full game didn't cause the 25-year-old to injure himself four days later in the win against Tottenham Hotspur.

"It wasn't a mistake because for us the most important thing is to win the match that we have to play," the City manager told reporters. "At that moment we were losing and it was important for Sergio to continue playing.

"Maybe if we were winning, he would have played 75 minutes so it was not an important amount.

"Maybe he played 10 or 15 minutes more, but I don't think that was directly related to his injury - I would make the same decision."

Aguero has scored 26 goals for City this season.
