Summer signing Erling Braut Haaland scored on his debut to help Manchester City secure a slender 1-0 pre-season victory over Bayern Munich in Wisconsin on Saturday night.

It took only 12 minutes for the Norwegian striker to find the net with his first shot on goal, sliding the ball in from close range after receiving an inviting low-driven cross from Jack Grealish.

The Citizens dominated proceedings at Lambeau Field in a game which was delayed on two occasions and reduced to an 80-minute affair due to an electrical storm passing over Green Bay's Lambeau Field stadium.

After kickoff was delayed by 15 minutes, City began with real intent and came close in the opening five minutes with strikes from Kevin De Bruyne and Grealish flashing narrowly wide of Manuel Neuer's goal.

Bayern's Serge Gnabry had the ball in the back of the net just moments later, but teammate Thomas Muller was caught offside in the build-up.

City then took advantage of Bayern's inability to clear their lines from a set piece, with De Bruyne picking up the ball on the edge of the area and disguising a through ball towards Grealish, who controlled perfectly before setting up Haaland for a tap in inside the six-yard box.

As soon as Haaland and co finished their celebrations, the players were taken off the pitch and down the tunnel again for safety reasons due to the extreme weather conditions. A near-capacity crowd of almost 80,000 fans were also advised to take shelter from the heavy rain and lightning.

After almost a 50-minute delay, the game restarted with a Bayern kickoff, but it was City who continued to dominate proceedings. Julian Nagelsmann's side had their moments on the counter attack, but they were unable to test Ederson between the sticks.

Haaland had the ball in the back of the net for a second time on the stroke of half time, but his effort was ruled out for offside shortly after Gnabry came agonisingly close to scoring an equaliser from a dangerous Alphonso Davies cross.

Haaland's effort proved to be his final contribution to the match as he was replaced at half time by fellow new arrival Julian Alvarez.

It took the Argentine forward less than two minutes to get in behind Bayern's back line before fizzing a left-footed strike across goal and narrowly wide of the far post.

A marauding run down the left flank from Josh Wilson-Esbrand just moments later resulted in the 19-year-old left-back firing a strike at goal and drawing a save from substitute goalkeeper Sven Ulreich.

Bayern were sloppy in possession at times in the second half and Nagelsmann made eight changes to try to rescue at least a draw, but the fresh blood brought on from the bench was unable to pose a threat to City's goal, with the German giants failing to register a single shot on target throughout the match.

In stark contrast, the Citizens boasted 22 shots on goal, and they almost doubled their lead in the closing stages when 17-year-old right-back Rico Lewis weaved his way past three Bayern defenders inside the box before hitting the near post from a tight angle.

City were unable to add a second but Pep Guardiola will have been delighted with his side's dominant performance on a stormy night in Green Bay.

The Premier League champions end their pre-season tour of the USA with two victories – including their 2-1 success over Club America on Thursday – and will now return to England ahead of their Community Shield clash with Liverpool at the King Power Stadium next Saturday. body check tags ::
