Atletico Madrid 'in pole position for Bernardo Silva'

Atletico Madrid lead the race to sign Manchester City attacker Bernardo Silva, according to a report.

Atletico Madrid are reportedly at the head of the queue for Manchester City attacker Bernardo Silva.

The Portugal international has made 201 appearances for the Citizens since arriving from Monaco in 2017, scoring 35 goals and contributing 44 assists during a successful spell.

Silva's future at the Etihad Stadium continues to be called into question, though, as the Premier League champions close in on a £100m deal for Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish.

A recent report claimed that Atletico and Barcelona were preparing to compete for the 26-year-old, who still has four years left to run on his contract in Manchester.

However, according to Mundo Deportivo, Diego Simeone's side are in pole position for the Portuguese, as Barcelona cannot afford to compete for his signature this summer due to their financial issues.

The report claims that Silva is 'attracted' to Atletico, although the La Liga champions might have to come up with an offer in the region of £45m in order to secure his services.

The attacker made 45 appearances in all competitions for Man City during the 2020-21 campaign, scoring five goals and registering nine assists in the process. body check tags ::
