Manchester City have reportedly identified Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot as a potential replacement for Ilkay Gundogan.
Since joining Man City from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2016, Gundogan has gone on to make 288 competitive appearances for the Citizens, contributing 52 goals and 37 assists.
The Man City captain has continued to be an integral part of Pep Guardiola's side during the current campaign, scoring three goals and providing four assists in 35 appearances.
Despite being a leading figure in the Man City dressing room, Gundogan's future in the North-West is in doubt, with his current contract set to expire at the end of the season.
Although Guardiola is keen to retain Gundogan's services, the midfielder is yet to decide whether to remain at the Etihad Stadium or seek a new challenge.
Having entered the final six months of his current deal, the Germany international is free to sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs.
Barcelona are believed to be monitoring the situation as they consider whether to offer the 32-year-old a contract.
With Gundogan's future yet to be resolved, Man City have already begun to scour the market for potential replacements.
According to Football Transfers, the Citizens have identified Rabiot as a possible transfer target should Gundogan decide to leave at the end of the season.
Rabiot was linked with a move to Man City's local rivals Manchester United last summer, but ultimately, a transfer never materialised.
The France international has remained with Juventus, where he has made 29 competitive appearances this season, registering seven goals and two assists.
Like Gundogan, the 27-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and is yet to put pen to paper on a new deal.
Rabiot has previous history at Man City after spending a brief period in the club's academy in 2008, before he headed back to France.
The Frenchman is not the only midfield option Man City are considering, though, as they have been linked with a move for Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Alexis Mac Allister.
Gundogan, meanwhile, played the duration of Man City's recent 2-0 victory over Newcastle United, and he is expected to be involved when the Citizens travel to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace on Saturday.
