Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola insists that he needs to bring in more players in order to compete effectively in the Premier League this season.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has said that he needs to bring in more new faces before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.

The Spaniard spent around £171.5m last summer and has already spent more than £191m this time around, bringing in five faces including Kyle Walker, Benjamin Mendy, Ederson, Bernardo Silva and Danilo.

Pointing to the average age of his squad, however - with an average age of 25 years, 281 days City have one of the oldest squads in the top flight - Guardiola claims that he needs "a little bit more" in order to compete this season.

"We have a lot of players with a lot of quality, that's why I'm so grateful for what the club has done," he told reporters yesterday.

"With respect to the players last season, we were one of the oldest teams in the Premier League. Danilo, Bernardo, Mendy, Ederson – we've bought young players.

"I think we need something a little bit more. The transfer window finishes August 31, we will see.

"I am happy with the way they work and the players know that. They have to show me this every day. We want to fight in every game."

City begin their season away at Premier League newcomers Brighton & Hove Albion next Saturday evening.
