Manchester City midfielder Samir Nasri admits that being left out of France's World Cup squad is "a little hard to accept".

Samir Nasri has admitted that it was a "shock" to learn that he had not been included in France's squad for this summer's World Cup.

The Manchester City midfielder scored 12 goals in 40 appearances for the Premier League champions this season, but could not secure a place in Didier Deschamps's 23-man squad or reserves for the Brazil tournament.

The 26-year-old told Sky Sports News: "When you want to speak with the manager, but he doesn't want to speak with you, you know that you're not going to go to the World Cup! I was prepared mentally. It was a shock but I was prepared mentally, so I'm OK.

"I wish good luck to the French national team and I need to take some time now to think about the national team, because it has been twice now that they have taken a World Cup away from me.

"Everything has been said. You can go around and ask any player if they are happy to be on the bench. No one is going to say yes. If that is the only excuse that they find, it is a little hard to accept. I need to think a little bit, during the holiday, about what will be my future in the national team. Missing two World Cups, it's really hard for a player."

Club manager Manuel Pellegrini backed Nasri for a place in the French squad after he helped the team secure the Premier League title last weekend.
