Vincent Kompany is in contention to feature in Belgium's games against Bosnia-Herzegovina and Cyprus next week, despite being sidelined for the past month through injury.

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has been named in Belgium's squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifying fixtures, despite not featuring for his club side this month.

The 31-year-old has been nursing a calf injury picked up on international duty in August, ruling him out of the Citizens' last six fixtures in all competitions.

Kompany has been closing in on a return over the past week, however, and after taking part in full training since Monday he has been given the nod to feature for Belgium against Bosnia-Herzegovina and Cyprus.

There is no place in the squad for Christian Benteke and Mousa Dembele due to a knee and foot injury respectively, but fellow Premier League players Marouane Fellaini and Romelu Lukaku are both included.

The Red Devils are already assured of top spot in Group H ahead of their final batch of qualifiers next week.

Belgium squad in full:

Goalkeepers: Koen Casteels (Wolfsburg), Thibaut Courtois (Chelsea), Simon Mignolet (Liverpool), Matz Sels (Anderlecht)

Defenders: Toby Alderweireld (Tottenham), Dedryck Boyata (Celtic), Laurent Ciman (Montreal), Leander Dendoncker (Anderlecht), Vincent Kompany (Manchester City), Jordan Lukaku (Lazio), Thomas Meunier (Paris Saint-Germain), Thomas Vermaelen (Barcelona), Jan Vertonghen (Tottenham)

Midfielders: Nacer Chadli (West Brom), Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City), Steven Defour (Burnley), Marouane Fellaini (Manchester United), Youri Tielemans (Monaco), Axel Witsel (Tianjin Quanjian)

Forwards: Michy Batshuayi (Chelsea), Yannick Carrasco (Atletico Madrid), Eden Hazard (Chelsea), Thorgan Hazard (Borussia Monchengladbach), Romelu Lukaku (Manchester United), Dries Mertens (Napoli), Kevin Mirallas (Everton), Divock Origi (Wolfsburg)
