Jose Mourinho: 'Manchester United's Champions League exit nothing new'

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho describes his side's exit from the Champions League as "nothing new".

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has described his side's shock exit from the Champions League to Sevilla last night as "nothing new" for the club.

The Red Devils were left stunned late on in the last-16 encounter when substitute Wissam Ben Yedder scored a brace in the space of just five minutes in order to put the Spanish side through to the quarter-final stage of Europe's top competition for the first time since 1958.

United had been playing in the knockout stages of the Champions League for the first time since the 2013-14 season, when they made it to the quarter-finals under David Moyes, and speaking at his post-match press conference afterwards, Mourinho made a surprising reference to the previous times he had knocked United out of the competition.

"I've sat in this chair twice before in the Champions League, and I knock Man Utd out at home twice, with Porto - Man Utd out, and with Real Madrid - Man Utd out. So this is nothing new for this football club," he told reporters.

"I don't want to make a drama out of it, we don't have time for that. We have a match on Saturday, we have no time to be sad for more than 24 hours. And that's football, it's not the end of the world."

With the Premier League title race effectively decided already, the result means that the FA Cup now represents United's only chance of silverware this season.
