Manchester United interim head coach Ralf Rangnick is hopeful that Bruno Fernandes will be back for Tuesday's Champions League last-16 second leg with Atletico Madrid.
Fernandes was not available against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Saturday due to illness.
However, speaking ahead of the match with Spurs, Rangnick said that the Portugal international has a returning for the European contest with Diego Simeone's side.
"Bruno is ill, unfortunately," Rangnick told Sky Sports News. "He couldn't train yesterday and is therefore not available for the game. Hopefully, he will be back for Tuesday but, today, he is out."
Fernandes has again been a vital player for the 20-time English champions during the 2021-22 campaign, making 36 appearances in all competitions, contributing nine goals and 14 assists.
Scott McTominay (calf) and Luke Shaw (COVID-19) are also battling to be available for the Champions League tie, which is level at 1-1 following the first leg at Wanda Metropolitano. body check tags ::
