Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has hit out at the "stupid" Anthony Martial for his handball which led to CSKA Moscow's penalty in tonight's 1-1 Champions League draw in Russia.
The 19-year-old striker handled inside the area on 15 minutes, with Seydou Doumbia converting the rebound after David de Gea kept out Roman Eremenko from 12 yards.
Martial, a £36m summer signing from AS Monaco, atoned for his error by equalising in the second half, but his goal did not square him with the Dutch manager.
"It was a stupid reaction from Anthony but before that maybe it was offside, I don't know," he told reporters.
"I thought it was offside, but I don't know. It was close. But the reaction, it's the first time that he did it and there always has to be a first time, but for us it was unlucky because I think we controlled the game.
"We don't play too fast, I think. The ball possession was too slow in the first half, but we improved in the second half and we scored a fantastic goal. We could have won, but 'could have' doesn't count in football."
The Red Devils sit joint second with CSKA in Group B, two points behind Wolfsburg.
