Sir Bobby Charlton has offered his congratulations to Wayne Rooney after the Manchester United striker became England's record goalscorer.
The United captain smashed Charlton's international tally when he bagged his 50th goal for the Three Lions from the penalty spot during their 2-0 win over Switzerland.
"I would like to congratulate Wayne on becoming England's leading goalscorer," Charlton told United's website.
"It is a record that I am sure [Rooney] will hold for a long time, and it is clear to see that [Rooney] will go on scoring for [his] club and country for a long time to come."
He added: "I obviously cannot deny that I am disappointed that I now don't hold this record, however, I am absolutely delighted that it is Wayne, as captain of my beloved club and country, who now holds this record."
Harry Kane was also on target for England as they brushed the Swiss aside in the Euro 2016 qualifier.
