Barcelona confirm squad for Manchester United clash

Barcelona confirm their squad for Thursday's Europa League knockout round playoff first leg with Manchester United.

Barcelona will be missing Ousmane Dembele and Sergio Busquets for the first leg of their Europa League knockout round playoff with Manchester United at Camp Nou.

The Catalan outfit will welcome the 20-time English champions for the first fixture on Thursday night, before the two teams lock horns for the second leg at Old Trafford next week.

As expected, Barcelona's squad does not include either Dembele or Busquets, with the pair currently on the sidelines due to hamstring and ankle injuries respectively.

Dembele is not expected to be back on the field until the middle of next month, while Busquets is set to miss the rest of February with the sprain that he picked up in the recent clash with Sevilla.

Barcelona did not suffer any fresh issues in their 1-0 victory over Villarreal on Sunday, though, and the club also do not have any suspension issues heading into the contest.

Marc Casado, Pablo Torre and Angel Alarcon are among a number of youngsters in the squad, but there is also plenty of experience in the shape of Jordi Alba, Frenkie de Jong and Robert Lewandowski.

Barcelona have not been in European action since beating Viktoria Plzen 4-2 in their final Champions League Group C contest at the start of November.

However, the victory was not enough for Xavi's side to finish in the top two, ultimately claiming third, which saw them fail to quality for the knockout round of the European Cup.

"I still feel angry about not being in the Champions League. I think because of the history and the greatness of the club, we should always be in the UCL, but we did not deserve that and we have to accept the reality," Barcelona boss Xavi told reporters during his pre-match press conference.

"We don't feel the pressure. The euphoria in the team is good, and we see people excited and we feel humbled to go far in this competition."

Barcelona have won each of their last 11 matches in all competitions, while they have not lost since Bayern Munich beat them 3-0 in the Champions League at the end of October.
